“In God’s Son we have redemption through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins . . .having made peace through the blood of His cross. And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” Colossians 1:14, 20-22

The Coronavirus Pandemic is certainly taking its toll upon our world, yet God states that there is a “Pandemic” of far greater devastation that has been with us since Adam and Eve. The Bible identifies this pandemic as sin! The evil of sin has formed a rebellious spirit within each of us that has not only separated us from a relationship with God, but has made God to be our enemy! Out of love for our souls, God, in mercy, sent Jesus Christ to resolve this alienation and this enmity.

The precious blood of Christ is synonymous with the death of Christ and the Bible teaches that we – who have been alienated and enemies of God – have been reconciled to Him through the death of Christ. And we have been brought to be at peace with God through the blood of Christ’s cross, referring to His crucifixion. We have been created with an immortal soul that needs to be saved from the wrath of God which our sins have incurred.

God’s justice and holiness demanded a payment to be made for the punishment that was due because of our sins. That payment (that would appease God’s wrath) had to be a perfect sacrifice and only God could accomplish what was required. Two thousand years ago, the Son of God took upon Himself our human nature in order that He would die and provide the required sacrifice!

As God and Man, Jesus Christ of Nazareth lived a perfect and holy life and sacrificed His life to make an atonement for sin. The death of Christ, through the shedding of His blood met the demands of His Father, enabling His Father to be just and the Justifier of all who place their faith in Jesus Christ.

“God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement through the shedding of His blood to be received by faith. He did it to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the One who justifies those who have faith in Christ.” Romans 3:25-26
