This week, the elders of Emmanuel Baptist Church would like to share with you this blog post written by Pastor Bill Morgan of Grace Baptist Church in Schreiber, Ontario.

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said “Behold!  The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”  I did not know Him but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me;  “Upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.”  And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”  (John 1:29, 33-34)

John the Baptist was chosen of God to prepare the way of the Lord which had been prophesied by Isaiah 800 years before the arrival of Jesus Christ.  “The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness.  Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”  (Isaiah 40:3)  The Christian Church is still announcing to the world  “Behold!  The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world”.  The pardon of our sins is the only way that we can gain acceptance with a Holy God and receive the gift of eternal life which, alone, enables us to be prepared for death and judgment which follows.

It was necessary that God’s Son would shed His blood on behalf of His people in order that they would be acquitted of all their transgressions.  Only a perfect sacrifice would be an acceptable sacrifice to meet the demands of God’s justice.  “And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood and without shedding of blood there is no remission.  For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into Heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; and it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.  So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.  To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time apart from sin, for salvation.”  (Hebrews 9:22, 24, 27-28)

Has Jesus Christ appeared before His Father on your behalf?  When He shed His blood as the Sacrificial Lamb, did He bear your sins on the cross?  Do you eagerly wait to meet Him?  All and many more of these benefits are freely offered to each of us and may be attained on the condition that we recognize our personal guilt before God and believe with all our hearts that Jesus Christ of Nazareth (the historical Jesus) is also the Son of God.  The Bible teaches that we come into this world with 3 strikes against us:  without Christ  –  having no hope  –  and without God!!    Only by faith in God’s Son alone, will those three strikes be cancelled through the pardon of all our sins and the granting of eternal life.  “Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body . . . . For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:12, 23)
